Steven Folgarty Awarded SLSSC 50th Anniversary Scholarship (August 26, 2010)
|
The Honorable Mayor Francis Slay, the major of the city of St. Louis, has has presented the SLSSC 50th anniversary scholarship of $5,000 to Steven Fogarty on behalf of St. Louis - Stuttgart Sister Cities. Steven is a junior at University of Missouri-St. Louis majoring in Computer Science and will attend the University of Stuttgart for one year beginning this fall.
Steven’s great grandparents were German-speaking farmers. After the World Wars his grandparents and parents were not allowed to speak, but Steven would catch his great grandpa slipping into German. He loved the language and studied it in high school and went to Germany on a school exchange. He has continued studying German and plans to get a minor in German.
He has chosen University of Stuttgart for its connection to the arts and location in the Black Forest. His interests are biking and hiking, so the southern region will be ideal for him. We believe Steven Fogarty will be an excellent representative for St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister Cities, UM-St. Louis and the City of St. Louis.

Youth Group Exchange in Stuttgart (May 4-5, 2010)
 |
SLSSC organize a group of St. Louis student dancers and musicians to participate in the Stuttgart Youth Group Exchange.
Here's what one student had to say:
I would just like to say thank you so very much for allowing me to be a part of the exchange program this year to Stuttgart. Without a doubt, this has been the best summer of my life because of the program. I have made friends that will last a lifetime not only hear in St. Louis, but also in Stuttgart. Being in Stuttgart for a whole week was absolutely amazing and it's an experience that I will never forget. I got to see and experience the different culture and lifestyle. It was also an honor hosting two of the Germans, Max and Marcel, who came over here as part of the exchange. They have thanked me and the organization a thousand times over for what we did. I just wanted to let you and the whole organization know how much being a part of this exchange was to me. I could be here writing for a year and not get through telling you how much fun I had. I really hope you guys give me the chance to take part again next year. I am looking forward to it very much. Once again, thank you for giving me this lifetime experience.

About our "chef" Stephanie Walter:
Stephanie Anna Walter was born in the sixties in Duderstadt, Germany.
At the tender age of four, she was already peeking into the cooking pots of her grandmother Hedwig, who opened and operated a restaurant and B&B in the country. Today Stephanie’s parents continue to successfully operate the restaurant and B&B in Brochthausen near Duderstadt, in Germany.
After graduating from high school Stephanie did not immediately study the art of cooking but completed her apprenticeship in banking in Göttingen, Germany, where she continued to work until her move to Monterrey, Mexico, with husband Harald and baby Maximilian.
During her time in Göttingen, Stephanie and her friend Julia started a cooking club with some colleagues for a once-a-month Friday night “kitchen encounter”. The challenge: to create a 5-course menu from scratch.
Today Stephanie and her family live in St. Louis, where she continues to enjoy cooking for family, friends, and occasionally for you!
Her cooking philosophy: Live, Love and Eat!
